Eating Duluth: 9 Great Places

By Andrew Zimmern
At Sara's Table Chester Creek Cafe
The best little restaurant and java spot - serving all day - is housed in the renovated Taran's Food Market, a few blocks up the big hill It's a mouthful to say, but a place you have to visit for the best breakfast in town and some of the most inventive yet unfussy dining I encountered up north. Cream walls, lots of natural light, and old pine and fir trim make for a pleasant ambience, but the allure here is the vibe: Imagine Day by Day Cafe and Lucia's rolled into one. Baked goods are top notch, and the menu runs the gamut from sandwiches and omelets to simple pastas. In the evening, choice is limited: I tried brined, roasted, and ginger and soy glazed chicken with braised ramps and smoked roma-tomato compote. This is a superb little cafe. 1902 East 8th Street, Duluth, 218-723-8569, taransmarketplace.com
